Salah satu daerah bakal genangan Waduk Jatigede ini sebenarnya merupakan foto arsip lama sekitar tahun 2010-an, pada waktu penelitian untuk keperluan menyusun skripsi di daerah genangan. Foto ini diambil dari arah Kecamatan Situraja. Bisa dibayangkan bahwa bukit-bukit yang kita lihat di foto akan ditenggelamkan ?? bahkan ini hanya sebagian kecil saja, ditempat-tempat bakal genangan yang lain banyak bukit yang dibom, dibor, dan lain sebagainya demi Pembangunan Waduk Jatigede.
Dari berbagai sumber banyak dikatakan bahwa begitu banyak kenekaragaman hayati yang belum terinventarisir dengan baik pada waktu itu, itu berarti bahwa secara otomatis banyak keanekaragaman hayati berupa flora dan fauna yang akan hilang ditenggelamkan begitu saja di tempat ini, tanpa sempat tercatat dan terinventarisasi dengan baik jika memang tidak ada perbaikan dalam hal pencatatan kekayaan flora dan fauna tersebut.
Tapi, mudah-mudahan sekarang kendala dalam hal tersebut sudah bisa diatasi, dan anak cucu keturunan Sumedang nanti terutama yang asal daerah genangan bisa tahu daerah tempat tinggalnya dulu beserta kekayaan dan keindahan alam yang ada di dalamnya. Ditambah lagi kebanyakan daerah genangan yang akan ditenggelamkan adalah tanah leluhur Sumedang yang tentunya menjadi kebanggan tersendiri bagi masyarakat Sumedang. Ssungguh sangat disayangka, di tempat ini begitu banyak situs bersejarah peninggalan masa Kerajaan Sumedang Larang, contohnya mungkin seperti Situs Karamat Inten yang dulu pernah saya ceritakan.
Foto diatas merupakan foto salah satu tahapan pembangunan Waduk Jatigede, yaitu pembuatan terowongan pengelak dan semua akses yang menuju padanya saat itu, bisa dilihat terowongan pengelak berada disamping kiri foto. Bisa kita bayangkan, dalam proses pembuatan terowongan pengelak tersebut bukit dilubangi dengan menggunakan dinamit. Sayang, meski sekarang Waduk Jatigede sudah hampir selesai, menurut berita dampak sosial yang ditimbulkan akibat pembangunan Waduk Jatigede ini belum selesai seenuhnya sampai sekarang.
Sinohydro Corporation, sebuah perusahaan kontraktor asal China yang turut serta dalam mega proyek Pembangunan Waduk Jatigede di Kabupaten Sumedang. Seperti yang telah banyak kita ketahui, proyek Waduk Jatigede adalah proyek yang pembangunannya cukup lama menggantung di Kabupaten Sumedang, bagaimana tidak, pembangunannya sudah digagas semenjak tahun 1963 dan sejak itu pula semua detil perencanaannya mulai disusun.
Pembebasan lahan yang diperlukan untuk membangun waduk tersebut kabarnya mulai dibebaskan pada kisaran tahun 1984-1986, dan kemudian setelah itu proyek tersebut seolah tenggelam dan tak jelas bagaimana kelanjutannya. Baru kemudian pada beberapa tahun kebelakang proyek ini dapat dilanjutkan kembali setelah ada investor dari China bersama WIKA (PT. Wijaya Karya) dan beberapa perusahaan lainnya bergabung dalam sebuah konsorsium guna melanjutkan pembangunan Waduk Jatigede. Dilihat dari rentang waktu tersebut, Waduk Jatigede ini bisa dibilang menjadi sebuah proyek waduk yang pembangunannya terlama di Indonesia, atau bahkan mungkin di dunia.
Pembangunan Waduk Jatigede awalnya ditargetkan rampung tahun 2012, namun karena satu dan lain hal diperkirakan proyek ini baru akan selesai pada tahun 2013 dan akan diresmikan pada awal tahun 2014 oleh Presiden Republik Indonesia. Kantor Sinohydro Corporation ini letaknya tepat berada dijalan menuju proyek Waduk Jatigede dari arah Kecamatan Jatigede, disini berkibar bendera Republik Indonesia, Republik Rakyat China, dan tentunya bendera perusahaan.

One of Jatigede Reservoir Reservoir Areas
One of the areas that will be inundated in the Jatigede Reservoir is actually an old archived photo around the year 2010, at the time of the research for the purposes of preparing a thesis in the inundation area. This photo was taken from the direction of Situraja District. You can imagine that the hills that we see in the photo will be submerged ?? even this is only a small part, in places where there will be other puddles, many hills are bombed, drilled, and so on for the sake of Jatigede Reservoir Development.
From various sources many say that so many biodiversity that has not been properly inventoried at that time, it means that automatically a lot of biodiversity in the form of flora and fauna that will disappear just drowned in this place, without being recorded and properly inventoryed if indeed there is no improvement in the recording of the wealth of flora and fauna.
But, hopefully now the obstacles in this matter can already be overcome, and later grandchildren descendants of Sumedang, especially those from inundation areas can know the area where they used to live along with the richness and natural beauty that is in it. Plus most of the inundation area that will be submerged is the ancestral land of Sumedang which is certainly a pride for Sumedang people. It is really unfortunate, in this place there are so many historical sites from the Sumedang Larang Kingdom, for example maybe like the Karamat Inten Site that I once told.

The photo above is a photo of one of the stages of the construction of the Jatigede Reservoir, namely the construction of an evacuation tunnel and all accesses leading to it at that time, you can see the circumvention tunnel located to the left of the photo. We can imagine, in the process of making the tunnel, the hill was perforated using dynamite. Unfortunately, even though the Jatigede Reservoir is now almost complete, according to the news the social impact caused by the construction of the Jatigede Reservoir has not been completed as of now.

Sinohydro Corporation, a contracting company from China that participated in the mega project of Jatigede Reservoir Development in Sumedang Regency. As we have already known, the Jatigede Reservoir project is a project whose construction has been hanging for a long time in Sumedang Regency, how could it not, the construction has been initiated since 1963 and since then all the planning details have begun to be compiled.
Reportedly the land acquisition needed to build the reservoir reportedly began to be released in the range of 1984-1986, and then after that the project seemed to sink and it's unclear how it would proceed. Only then in the past few years could the project be resumed after there were investors from China with WIKA (PT. Wijaya Karya) and several other companies joining a consortium to continue the construction of the Jatigede Reservoir. Judging from the time span, the Jatigede Reservoir is arguably the longest-running reservoir project in Indonesia, or maybe even the world.
Jatigede Reservoir construction was originally targeted to be completed in 2012, but for one reason or another it is estimated that this project will only be completed in 2013 and will be inaugurated in early 2014 by the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
